Key Responsibilities

  • •Perform in-depth monthly monitoring of the lending portfolio to evaluate performance and financial health of portfolio companies and VC/PE funds, and present findings to internal stakeholders within Innovation Banking and Risk.
  • •Undertake market analysis on VC fundraising, dealmaking, and exit activity in Greater China on a quarterly basis.
  • •Conduct periodic thematic reviews on the portfolio and present conclusions to internal stakeholders.
  • •Manage HSBC Innovation Banking’s equity warrant portfolio from issuance to exit, including convening valuations and exit committees.
  • •Support Deal Captains with origination and execution of venture debt and other debt financing transactions, including pitching, structuring, negotiation, credit approval, and legal documentation with legal counsel.

Key Requirements

  • •Solid experience in banking or financial services, preferably portfolio management roles.
  • •Deep understanding of the three core financial statements and how to interpret them for portfolio evaluation.
  • •Strong corporate finance foundations including financial modelling, credit risk analysis, and legal documentation; familiarity with LMA / APLMA term sheets.
  • •Experience in customer-facing roles, including negotiating with clients to achieve mutually satisfactory outcomes; experience with institutionally-backed early-stage companies preferred.
  • •Mandarin essential (spoken and written), Cantonese useful, and excellent spoken and written English; strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills; Type 1 and Type 4 SFC licenses beneficial, plus advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint proficiency.
