Key Responsibilities

  • •Oversee local operations and define/execute Wise’s market expansion strategy in South Africa and, where relevant, Southern Africa.
  • •Own and expand Wise’s regulatory presence in South Africa, including end-to-end regulatory and licensing processes.
  • •Translate regulatory requirements into product implementations with Compliance and act as a go-to regulatory resource for Product teams.
  • •Identify, open, and manage banking and payment-partner relationships, from pitching and negotiation through account setup and due diligence.
  • •Improve existing banking and payments relationships and continuously optimize product economics and service reliability for customers.

Salary: ZAR 1,408,000 - 1,792,000 annually

Key Requirements

  • •Independently negotiate ideal terms with a clear product vision and strong commercial understanding.
  • •Manage regulatory and licensing processes end-to-end, including understanding the regulatory landscape and coordinating submissions.
  • •Build strong, constructive relationships with key regulators and public-sector stakeholders (e.g., South African Reserve Bank, FSCA, Financial Intelligence Centre).
  • •Understand financial, payments, and FX regulation in South Africa and translate regulatory requirements into product implementations with Compliance teams.
  • •Knowledge of AML, KYC, sanctions, exchange control, and related risk controls, plus familiarity with relevant South African financial licensing frameworks.
