Key Responsibilities

  • •Lead and develop the underwriting team, fostering quality, service, and strong customer outcomes.
  • •Act as a senior point of escalation for Sales teams, brokers, and complex underwriting cases while balancing technical judgment with commercial awareness.
  • •Apply appropriate terms within authority for Life, Serious Illness and Income Protection proposals.
  • •Coach and mentor underwriters to support capability development and succession planning.
  • •Review portfolio trends and emerging risks to evolve underwriting standards, driving service delivery and improvements while maintaining a robust control environment.

Key Requirements

  • •Preferred diploma in Life and Disability Underwriting or equivalent technical underwriting experience.
  • •Significant Life, Serious Illness and Income Protection underwriting experience, including complex cases within authority levels.
  • •Strong market and industry knowledge to drive practical underwriting improvements and shape a market-leading proposition.
  • •Leadership capability to motivate, coach, and develop a team through change, growth, and succession planning.
  • •Confident presentation and stakeholder engagement skills with brokers, senior stakeholders, and external partners.
