Job Summary

Design and improve TikTok’s core recommendation algorithms powering the “for you” and “following” feeds. Work with product managers, data scientists, and engineers to build and refine large-scale machine learning models for user acquisition and retention, spanning retrieval through ranking and re-ranking. Run rigorous A/B tests, analyze results, and iterate. Partner with infrastructure teams to enhance end-to-end ML system efficiency and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

•Implement large-scale machine learning algorithms to optimize new user acquisition efficiency and improve retention using acquisition signals across ranking phases.
•Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, data scientists, and product engineers to define problems, design/refine algorithms, and communicate results.
•Run regular A/B tests, analyze performance, and iterate algorithms accordingly.
•Develop an end-to-end understanding of machine learning systems and partner with infrastructure teams to improve efficiency and stability.

Key Requirements

•Hands-on experience with recommender systems and/or machine learning, including areas such as deep learning, NLP, causal inference, or multimodal machine learning.
•Strong programming skills in Python and/or C/C++, with deep understanding of data structures and algorithms.
•Familiar with architecture and implementation of at least one mainstream ML framework: TensorFlow, PyTorch, or MXNet.
•Experience with core recommendation components such as retrieval, ranking, re-ranking, or cold-start (plus).
•Good communication and teamwork skills, with a passion for learning new techniques and tackling challenging problems.
