Key Responsibilities

  • •Operate and continuously improve a materials and failure investigation laboratory using tools including SEM/EDS, x-ray/CT, optical microscopy, and cross-section preparation.
  • •Develop and implement lab procedures for materials characterization, failure analysis, and reporting of results to stakeholders.
  • •Perform failure analysis on electronic failures and recommend corrective actions across metallic, ceramic, polymeric, and composite materials.
  • •Drive failure analysis investigations using methods including 8D, fault-tree, fishbone, and FRACAS.
  • •Establish SOPs and lab practices to improve sample preparation and physicochemical characterization outputs, and coordinate outsourcing/external labs when needed.

Key Requirements

  • •2+ years of experience in a materials engineering role, preferably for aerospace or automotive applications.
  • •Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science/Materials Engineering/Chemical Engineering (Mechanical or Reliability Engineering also accepted).
  • •Hands-on experience operating lab instruments, including SEMs, microscopes, and x-ray systems.
  • •Familiarity with electronics (PCBs/PCBAs/components) and failure mechanisms such as solder fatigue, intermetallic growth, conductive anodic filaments, tin whiskers, electromigration, and corrosion.
  • •Team-player with clear written and oral communication skills and experience working with interdisciplinary teams; familiarity with IPC, JEDEC, MIL, and ASTM standards.
