Key Responsibilities

  • •Define and drive the technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for ChatGPT Search Infrastructure across orchestration, integrations, serving, experimentation, evaluation, observability, and rollout.
  • •Lead and develop a team of experienced engineers, creating ownership opportunities and an inclusive, high-trust culture with clear accountability.
  • •Partner with Post-Training to translate model launches and prompt optimization into production-ready search experiences, including A/B experiments and evaluation.
  • •Build reusable, extensible platforms that let Search product vertical teams independently implement, test, and launch within automated reliability/scalability/quality/latency guardrails.
  • •Partner with Inference, Indexing, and Retrieval teams to evolve the end-to-end Search architecture, uphold service objectives (e.g., availability and latency), and establish engineering practices for operational readiness and incident prevention.

Salary: USD 401,000 - 445,000 annually

Key Requirements

  • •Experience managing senior engineers and leading teams responsible for complex, high-scale infrastructure, online serving, or distributed systems.
  • •Significant technical depth in backend infrastructure, platform engineering, APIs, low-latency serving, experimentation platforms, or AI-powered product development.
  • •Strong understanding of how models, prompts, inference systems, search orchestration, indexing, retrieval, and infrastructure work together.
  • •Experience partnering with research or Post-Training teams to launch models, run controlled experiments, evaluate model behavior, or optimize prompts in production.
  • •Ability to develop technical direction and lead ambiguous, rapidly changing work while balancing product strategy, organizational leadership, and people management.
