Key Responsibilities

  • •Oversee Environmental Health and Health Promotion programs, including activities and staff, to ensure department success.
  • •Lead strategic planning and manage the department’s annual budget in collaboration with the Board of Health and County approvals.
  • •Plan for and respond to public health emergencies, acting as lead spokesperson and coordinating mitigation efforts.
  • •Maintain accreditation and serve as liaison to state agencies for environmental health and food safety.
  • •Provide management and team building, including HR, finances, legal and risk management, and participate in collective bargaining and labor relations.

Key Requirements

  • •Registered Sanitarian license through the State of Montana and Registered Environmental Health Specialist license through the National Environmental Health Association.
  • •Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental health.
  • •Subdivision Contracted Reviewer certificate for State-reviewed subdivisions with the Montana Department of Environmental Quality.
  • •Valid Montana driver’s license and immunization/proof of immunity to certain infectious diseases with a TB test.
