Job Summary

Perform research to improve thin film solar cell performance, stability, and manufacturing cost. Plan and execute development engineering experiments in lab and manufacturing environments, using statistical and engineering methods to drive continuous improvement. Ensure alignment with sister sites and follow quality, safety, and environmental policies.

Key Responsibilities

•Conduct thin film material and device research to enhance solar cell performance and stability while reducing manufacturing cost.
•Plan, execute, and characterize development engineering experiments in lab and manufacturing environments, applying statistical and engineering methods.
•Ensure R&D line health through thin film material quality monitoring, critical analysis, and continuous improvement; report daily/weekly line health data.
•Perform excursion root-cause analysis and troubleshooting with process and integration teams; study process windows and establish process specs/control limits.
•Establish yield bridges and drive yield, operation productivity, and cost-neutral improvement initiatives; maintain operation alignment with sister sites and comply with Environmental/Quality/Safety policies.

Travel: Low travel

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 89,440 - 127,400 annually

Key Requirements

•Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree in an engineering or similar technical discipline, with relevant technical experience (or equivalent prior roles at First Solar).
•Experience with yield study, device or film-level failure analysis, corner case study, spec development, and SPC establishment, including IQC/IPQC/OQC quality systems.
•Hands-on working knowledge of thin-film process techniques such as sputtering, CVD, ALD, CMP, wet/dry etch, evaporation, laser, slot die, or inkjet print.
•User-level knowledge of characterization tools including XPS, TOF-SIMS, X-SEM, EDS, TEM, XRD, XRF, FTIR, UV-Vis, RBS, Raman, and Ellipsometry.
•Ability to work independently, follow Safe Work Practices including LOTO, and author/maintain production standard documents (e.g., SOP/PTP/QCP).
