Key Responsibilities

  • •Manage, coach, and grow a team of ML engineers working on chemistry and process problems, including hiring, onboarding, 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development.
  • •Own the team’s technical direction: model architectures, data strategy, validation methodology, and standards for when models can inform or set process decisions.
  • •Partner with a TPM to translate product priorities into scoped engineering work, push back on infeasible asks, and commit to delivery.
  • •Work directly with process engineers, chemists, and operators to ensure models answer the plant’s real operational questions.
  • •Own the full model production lifecycle—deployment, monitoring, retraining, drift, and incident response—along with operational practices like on-call, runbooks, and reviews.

Key Requirements

  • •6+ years in machine learning or scientific computing, including 2+ years managing ML engineers or scientists with responsibility for hiring, performance, and growth.
  • •Degree or equivalent depth in chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science, or a closely related field; able to reason about reaction kinetics and separations with process engineers.
  • •Hands-on track record shipping ML models to production for physical, scientific, or industrial systems (e.g., surrogate/hybrid physics-ML, time-series forecasting, Bayesian optimization).
  • •Strong engineering fundamentals including Python, modern ML frameworks, experiment tracking, and reproducible, maintainable research code.
  • •Track record setting technical direction for a team and evaluating model quality and validation approaches across an ambiguous, cross-functional environment.
