Key Responsibilities

  • •Adhere to safety, health, and environmental practices and escalate unsafe practices or risks to the supervisor/manager.
  • •Design and implement comprehensive hygiene programs, including hazard identification and assessment in the mining environment.
  • •Conduct air sampling and measure airborne contaminants, gases, and vapours; monitor noise levels using specialised equipment.
  • •Assess worker exposure to hazardous chemicals, evaluate ergonomics, and examine ventilation effectiveness and PPE use.
  • •Analyze findings, prepare reports and statutory DMR reports, maintain the hazardous chemical register, and provide training to workers.

Key Requirements

  • •Grade 12/N3 Technical and a National Diploma (NQF6) in Occupational Hygiene or Environmental Health Sciences.
  • •B-Degree in Occupational Hygiene or Environmental Health Sciences is preferred.
  • •Advanced Certificate in Mine and Environmental Control (ACMEC) and registration with the Mine Ventilation Society (MVS).
  • •Registration with SA Institute of Occupational Hygiene (SAIOH) as an Occupational Hygienist; Intermediate Certificate (MEC) and MVS registration are also required.
  • •3–5 years of experience in Occupational Hygiene with strong knowledge of safety, health, environmental, and relevant legislative requirements.
