Key Responsibilities

  • •Design, implement, and maintain features in a Ruby on Rails service for the payments offering on the BigCommerce platform
  • •Ensure functionality is production-grade with test coverage, instrumentation, and documentation
  • •Troubleshoot production issues and contribute to post-incident reviews to improve reliability
  • •Build bullet-proof, robust, efficient, and maintainable code
  • •Collaborate with product and design teams to define feature specifications and timelines

Key Requirements

  • •3+ years of professional backend development experience with a strong focus on Ruby on Rails
  • •Experience designing and operating production-grade systems with observability (logs, traces, metrics, feature flags) and debugging live traffic issues
  • •Familiarity with observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, Sentry, Lightstep)
  • •Good understanding of Domain Driven Design and experience integrating with third-party APIs/services (e.g., payment flows)
  • •Experience with PHP and Scala is preferred
