Key Responsibilities

•Design, implement, and maintain features in a Ruby on Rails service for the payments offering on the BigCommerce platform
•Ensure functionality is production-grade with test coverage, instrumentation, and documentation
•Troubleshoot production issues and contribute to post-incident reviews to improve reliability
•Build bullet-proof, robust, efficient, and maintainable code
•Collaborate with product and design teams to define feature specifications and timelines

Key Requirements

•3+ years of professional backend development experience with a strong focus on Ruby on Rails
•Experience designing and operating production-grade systems with observability (logs, traces, metrics, feature flags) and debugging live traffic issues
•Familiarity with observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, Sentry, Lightstep)
•Good understanding of Domain Driven Design and experience integrating with third-party APIs/services (e.g., payment flows)
•Experience with PHP and Scala is preferred
