Key Responsibilities

  • •Lead delivery of large-scale HV/EHV cable system projects from concept to completion, ensuring quality, safety, and innovation.
  • •Develop and oversee HV cable system designs including routing, burial risk assessments, and thermal/electromagnetic/mechanical performance modelling.
  • •Provide expert input into cable system ratings, installation methodologies, jointing arrangements, cleating design, and system integration.
  • •Guide complex calculations (e.g., ampacity, short circuit forces, EMC, induced voltages, thermomechanical forces) to achieve compliance with National Grid TPs, IEC, and CIGRÉ standards.
  • •Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering inputs, manage technical risks and quality reviews, support procurement/commissioning, and conduct FAT/SAT witnessing and vendor oversight.

Key Requirements

  • •Demonstrated experience as a technical leader in HV/EHV cable system design.
  • •Track record in design, specification, and installation of complex cable systems in tunnel/urban/constrained environments.
  • •In-depth understanding of international and UK standards, particularly National Grid TPs, IEC, and CIGRÉ guidelines.
  • •Experience working in regulated, quality-assured environments with National Grid, SSE, EirGrid, or equivalent TSO/DNOs.
  • •Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering (MSc/MEng advantageous) and working toward Chartered Engineer (CEng) or similar; National Grid CDAE or similar is desirable.
