Key Responsibilities

  • •Own the commercial contract lifecycle end to end: draft, negotiate, and close agreements including MSAs, DPAs, and vendor/procurement paper.
  • •Develop and revise standard terms, negotiation playbooks, and legal strategy in partnership with commercial and finance teams.
  • •Own Button’s privacy posture across domestic and international law, including data processing agreements, vendor/partner diligence, and translating requirements for product and commercial teams.
  • •Partner with People Operations on employment matters and support diligence for financing or corporate transactions.
  • •Build self-serve legal systems: templates, fallback positions, approval thresholds, and a contract repository for what has been signed.

Key Requirements

  • •JD and active bar admission in New York, or admission in another US jurisdiction with eligibility to register as in-house counsel in New York.
  • •5–7 years in practice, including at least two years in-house.
  • •Personally drafted and negotiated commercial technology agreements (e.g., SaaS, data, advertising, partnerships) as the responsible lawyer.
  • •Working knowledge of US state privacy law and GDPR as applied to partner data processing.
  • •Built or materially rebuilt contracting processes (templates, playbooks, approval thresholds) in a lean, rapidly changing environment.
