Location: United States
Workplace: Onsite
Employment Type: Full time
Job Function: Software Engineering
Seniority: Mid level

Key Responsibilities

  • •Own the deployed boot path end-to-end: firmware/bootloaders, U-Boot/UEFI, unified kernel images, initrd, encrypted storage unlock, and handoff to NixOS; debug boot failures via remote support.
  • •Customize and sustain vendor BSPs by reconciling vendor Linux BSPs with NixOS package sets; create kernel and device tree patches and forward-port them across baseline upgrades.
  • •Ensure deterministic hardware availability by verifying peripherals reliably enumerate and operate across boots and platform upgrades.
  • •Sustain a long-lived signed boot chain and disk encryption while triaging and remediating CVEs in vendor kernels and low-level components on field systems.
  • •Automate Hardware-in-the-Loop validation to catch regressions in power states, bus communication, and platform stability before hardware deployment.

Key Requirements

  • •4+ years of embedded Linux platform/kernal-adjacent integration experience, including sustaining deployed embedded Linux systems.
  • •Deep understanding of the embedded Linux boot chain (firmware/bootloaders like U-Boot and EDK2, device trees, kernel command line, initrd/initramfs, and root filesystem assembly).
  • •Strong C skills for kernel/driver development and BSP patching, plus proficiency in Rust or C++ for userspace integration and services.
  • •Hands-on debugging of hardware at the bench using serial consoles, schematics/component datasheets, and board-level issue tracing.
  • •Maintain safe, resilient software updates on real-world hardware with strict regression validation to avoid bricking; U.S. Person status required for ITAR/EAR and eligibility to obtain/maintain a U.S. security clearance.
