Job Summary

Coordinate hydrogeology and water-management activities to support safe, compliant open-pit mining. Develop and maintain hydrogeological models, run groundwater monitoring, and manage dewatering and slope depressurisation. Own site-wide and long-term water balances, water infrastructure plans, KPIs, documentation, and stakeholder communication. Lead multidisciplinary water team coordination, including water demand evaluation through life-of-mine and proactive planning for permitting and closure risks.

Key Responsibilities

•Manage a safe and healthy work environment and actively participate in VFLs, risk assessments, and safety action close-out.
•Ensure compliance by keeping potential environmental impacts within statutory requirements.
•Deliver hydrogeology scope by managing dewatering, maintaining groundwater levels below mining levels, and developing/updating hydrogeological models and monitoring/reporting parameters.
•Own water management by updating operating site-wide water balances monthly, planning for permits and compliance, and developing water infrastructure and water use efficiency/conservation plans.
•Coordinate multidisciplinary water team activities, establish KPIs, maintain documentation/data systems, and communicate proactively with external stakeholders to meet water quality goals and regulatory requirements.

Key Requirements

•BSc (or equivalent) in a relevant technical discipline (NQF7).
•BSc Honours (or equivalent) in a relevant technical discipline (NQF8) is preferred.
•Registered member (full) of SACNASP or ECSA.
•6–8 years of hydrogeology and water management experience in large open-pit mining operations, including mine dewatering systems.
•Experience with slope depressurisation systems and site-wide water balances, plus external stakeholder relationships (e.g., water authorities and municipalities).
