Job Summary

Support power testing and energization projects by performing protection and control testing and commissioning on high-voltage utility substations. Execute hands-on protective relay testing with relay test sets, document results using digital tools, and ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and data integrity across active job sites. Collaborate with project leads and teams, mentor junior technicians, troubleshoot field issues, and assist with field forms, calibration, and reporting.

Key Responsibilities

•Perform testing and commissioning tasks for Protection and Control systems on high voltage substations.
•Conduct on-site protective relay testing using Omicron CMC 256/356 and Doble F6150, including testing relay models such as SEL-311L and SEL-387.
•Document field activities using field forms, digital data tools, and mobile applications; maintain logs, photo documentation, and labeling.
•Support field teams by resolving on-site challenges, mentoring junior technicians, and escalating complex technical issues to site leadership.
•Support project reporting and administrative tasks such as timecards, expense reports, and project reports; assist with calibration, inventory control, and equipment cleaning as directed.

Key Requirements

•High school diploma or equivalent.
•Minimum of 7 years of experience in the electrical testing industry, including medium/high voltage circuit breakers, power transformers, instrument transformers, and substation protection and controls testing.
•Demonstrable expertise on transmission, generation, and distribution relays and protective schemes (e.g., SEL, Basler, Beckwith, GE families).
•Technical capability to calibrate and test protective relays using test sets/measuring devices (Omicron CMC 256/356, Doble F6150), including control scheme testing and CT/PT circuit testing.
•Experience with electrical field testing standards and practices (NETA, IEEE, NFPA) and testing across projects from 15 kV to 500 kV.
