Key Responsibilities

•Advise on payments products and infrastructure across Mercury, advising on payment rails, product launches, incidents, partner relationships, and customer experiences while navigating regulatory complexity.
•Partner across the company at the intersection of Product, Compliance, Risk, Engineering, Operations, Partnerships, and Legal to bring legal perspective early as a trusted, high-ownership advisor.
•Help launch new capabilities (e.g., new payment capabilities like Zelle) from exploration through launch, evaluating risks and options in ambiguous environments.
•Support financial crimes initiatives by working with AML Advisory, Sanctions, Compliance, and Risk teams to interpret requirements and develop practical guidance.
•Build scalable guidance and frameworks that reduce friction and enable better decision-making over time.

Key Requirements

•4+ years of legal experience.
•Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
•Experience supporting fintechs, banks, payment companies, sponsor-bank programs, payment networks, BaaS providers, or regulators with substantial payments- or AML-related exposure.
•Strong working knowledge of payments-related regulatory frameworks, and an interest in emerging areas like stablecoins.
•Familiarity with BSA/AML and sanctions requirements.
