Job Summary

Join Xero’s Database Reliability Team to improve the health, resilience, and performance of Xero’s database platform. You’ll split your time between backend software engineering and database reliability, building internal tooling to streamline fleet management and automating processes. The role focuses on monitoring and observability, investigating production issues early, and supporting platform performance engineering while contributing to migrations from SQL Server to Amazon RDS and PostgreSQL.

Key Responsibilities

•Build internal tooling to improve fleet management and make managing Xero’s database platform more efficient.
•Monitor performance, improve observability, and investigate production issues before they affect users.
•Help evolve the database platform, including migrating from self-managed SQL Server to Amazon RDS and transitioning toward PostgreSQL.
•Drive platform observability and performance engineering to identify bottlenecks, support load balancing, and improve resilience.
•Integrate AI tools into daily workflows to enhance engineering quality and productivity.

Key Requirements

•Experience across .NET, C#, and AWS environments, or strong backend software engineering proficiency with a language-agnostic mindset.
•Practical knowledge of SQL Server, Amazon RDS, or PostgreSQL, with a drive to grow into platform engineering.
•Expertise building scalable backend tools, writing clean code, and automating manual processes.
•Strong grasp of system observability, database performance tuning, and responding to production issues.
•Ability to design resilient software solutions while leveraging modern development tools, including AI tools.
