Job Summary

Maintain and troubleshoot Lumen’s network equipment and services while supporting asset management, shipping/receiving, and preventive maintenance. Assist with installation, change, decommissioning, and testing of transport and next-generation technologies such as Edge Compute, Ethernet, SONET, and IP layers, including CPE installs. Use industry tools to locate, mark, and protect outside plant facilities, maintain records and trouble tickets, and support 24x7 on-call restoration efforts.

Key Responsibilities

•Troubleshoot network equipment, remove/replace defective modules or equipment, and coordinate efforts to isolate and restore network service.
•Assist in installation/change/decommissioning and testing of transport and next-generation technologies (Edge Compute, Wavelength, Fiber Optic transport, Ethernet, SONET, IP network layers), including potential CPE installation.
•Use tools to locate, mark, and protect underground outside plant facilities; monitor/locate routes and support restoration during service interruptions.
•Perform level 1 preventive scheduled maintenance and inspections on network and critical infrastructure equipment (HVAC, high-voltage electrical systems, DC power plants).
•Manage assets and materials (deliveries, replenishment, shipping/receiving), maintain tools/test sets, and update installation records, trouble tickets, and status reports.

Key Requirements

•High school diploma or GED, or up to 2 years of relevant job experience with 1+ years network monitoring, installation, or maintenance/repair.
•Entry-level technician knowledge of at least one discipline: Transmission (DS1/DS3/SONET), Switching (circuit-switching/SS7), TCP/IP (routers/higher-layer protocols), or Outside Plant (fiber locating, OTDR, Mass Fusion Splicing, etc.).
•Knowledge of locating fiber optic cable, right-of-way, and As-Builts.
•PC skills with Microsoft Windows and Office; ability to quickly learn corporate databases.
•Valid driver’s license and ability to perform physical work (e.g., lift 50 lbs.) and work on a rotational 24x7 on-call basis.
