Job Summary

Provide technical oversight for TransAlta’s SCADA and operational technology services across operating sites. You’ll diagnose and troubleshoot SCADA systems, liaise with AESO for daily support, support emergency outage responses, and specify/commission/maintain SCADA components including PLC, DCS, and HMI software. The role also includes updating standards and documentation, identifying and mitigating SCADA risks, coordinating with IT/OT networking and security teams, and leading technical work with guidance to less experienced staff.

Key Responsibilities

•Provide technical oversight, guidance, and expertise for SCADA and OT services between operating sites and end users.
•Diagnose and troubleshoot SCADA systems for remote control and monitoring of operating assets.
•Specify, install, commission, and maintain SCADA system computers, PLC and DCS systems, and HMI software.
•Modify HMI/SCADA applications (graphics, tag databases, and reports) and update SCADA standards, procedures, guidelines, and test documents.
•Identify and mitigate SCADA system risks; collaborate with IT/OT networking and security teams and conduct Root Cause Failure Analysis with corrective actions.

Key Requirements

•Certifications from Microsoft, Cisco, Nutanix, security vendors, or equivalent experience in computer network architecture knowledge.
•Must be registered as a Professional Engineer in good standing with APEGA (or other provincial regulatory association) and qualify for inter-provincial mobility.
•Knowledge of data communications protocols is required.
