Job Summary

Own the architecture and roadmap for a data platform powering reliable, discoverable, and actionable data across Thumbtack. Design shared platform services for real-time and batch ingesting, warehousing, transforming, metadata, and observability. Build platform features such as transformation frameworks and feature stores, define data quality and governance standards, and improve the developer experience with tooling, templates, docs, and CI/CD. Mentor engineers and partners while balancing latency, cost, reliability, and long-term maintainability.

Key Responsibilities

•Define and evolve platform architecture for shared data platform services (ingestion, orchestration, transformation, metadata, and observability).
•Implement and own core infrastructure capabilities, including transformation frameworks, feature stores, and real-time ingestion pipelines.
•Champion data quality, governance, and observability standards to ensure datasets are trustworthy and measurable.
•Improve the developer experience for data producers and consumers through tooling, templates, documentation, and CI/CD for data assets.
•Mentor engineers, run design reviews, and partner with analytics, ML, and product to prioritize platform investments while balancing latency, cost, and maintainability.

Key Requirements

•8+ years designing, building, and scaling data systems across pipelines, warehouses, and analytical data products.
•Proven technical leadership evolving complex data ecosystems, including ownership of data models, transformation frameworks, and cross-domain integrations.
•Advanced proficiency in SQL and Python.
•Deep experience with modern data stacks, including cloud-native warehouses (BigQuery or Snowflake), orchestration (Airflow or equivalent), and transformation frameworks (dbt or similar).
•Strong system design and architecture mindset to reason about scalability, cost, and performance trade-offs.
