Job Summary

Build and modernize Dialpad’s real-time telephony backend for the Tel Core team. You’ll architect backend libraries and APIs, optimize low-latency voice/video media pipelines, and troubleshoot complex issues across PSTN, WebRTC, and carrier boundaries using logs and PCAPs. Own load, failover, and regression testing to ensure scalability and resilience, partner with adjacent Tel Cloud/Edge/Calling/AI teams on end-to-end call flows, and help shape the roadmap by mentoring engineers.

Key Responsibilities

•Maintain and modernize real-time services on the Telephony Engines, architecting backend libraries and APIs for integration with the Telephony Platform.
•Build and optimize low-latency voice/video media pipelines by tuning codecs, RTP flows, and congestion-control behavior.
•Investigate and resolve complex production issues across PSTN, WebRTC, and carrier boundaries using Telephony Engine logs, PCAPs, observability tools, and experimentation.
•Run load, failover, and regression tests to validate scalability, resilience, and capacity limits for Telephony Engines and backend services.
•Participate in on-call and release rotations, owning Terraform- and GKE-backed rollouts, monitoring health, and driving follow-ups to improve operability and safety.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: CAD 151,000 - 175,000 annually

Key Requirements

•Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
•5+ years of software engineering experience owning substantial production backend systems in a SaaS or real-time communications environment.
•Demonstrated proficiency coding with AI agents to accelerate development and improve code quality.
•Deep expertise in C/C++ and Python.
•Experience with SIP, WebRTC, RTP/RTCP, DTLS/SRTP, and media codec negotiation in a production setting (or strong interest in learning).
