Key Responsibilities

  • •Platform Architecture & Ownership: Architect and evolve systems spanning Merchant Management, POS, and eCommerce acceptance; own the platform across acquiring and adjacent payment services for high throughput, low latency, and reliability across auth, clearing, settlement, and reconciliation.
  • •Technical Direction Across Squads: Lead architectural direction and design decisions across multiple engineering squads; mentor a pod of engineers and own delivery quality.
  • •Product & Business Alignment: Work with Product Owners to translate product intent and regulatory requirements into technically sound designs; communicate trade-offs clearly.
  • •Protocol, Integration & Hands-on Engineering: Define integration architecture across card schemes, payment processors, and switching layers; contribute to critical Java microservice components and reviews; resolve production issues.
  • •API & Event-Driven Architecture: Design REST/JSON APIs with idempotency and fault tolerance; drive event-driven flows using RabbitMQ; implement Redis-backed patterns for caching, idempotency keys, rate limiting, and real-time state.

Key Requirements

  • •12 to 15 years of backend or platform engineering experience, with substantial time building, owning, and operating production card payment systems at a licensed Fintech, payment processor, acquirer, or financial institution.
  • •Expert-level Java and Spring Boot proficiency with microservices design, transactional integrity, service decomposition, and production API development; able to review code and write when required.
  • •Deep, production-proven command of ISO 8583 and payment messaging, including authorisation, clearing and settlement, and experience with switching topology and host connectivity.
  • •Demonstrated experience integrating with payment gateways and processors (REST and ISO-based integrations, tokenisation, EMV 3DS 2.x, reconciliation).
  • •Experience working with RabbitMQ or Kafka and with a RPC framework like Dubbo or gRPC for inter-service communication; ability to design reliable transactional event flows.
