Job Summary

Perform refractory, acid-proofing, and civil installation and maintenance work in a smelter environment, including demolishing and rebuilding refractory-lined furnaces, vessels, ladles, and launders. Install acid-resistant linings and build/cast civil structures according to drawings and supplier guidelines. Operate and maintain refractory tools and equipment, perform rigging and crane hand signalling, and complete job cards while adhering to health, safety, environment, quality, and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

•Demolish and re-build refractory-lined furnaces, vessels, ladles, and launders according to design drawings and supplier installation guidelines.
•Demolish and install acid-resistant linings; demolish and build/cast civil structures.
•Clean, regularly inspect, and safely store tools and equipment used for refractory tasks.
•Safely operate required tools and equipment for refractory work.
•Perform rigging and hoisting tasks, report progress and bottlenecks, complete job cards on time, and work under supervisor instructions while meeting HSE and quality requirements.

Key Requirements

•Minimum Grade 12 Certificate.
•Refractory bricklaying apprenticeship (minimum 2 years).
•Trade certificate in Bricklaying from a recognized institution.
•All academic qualifications and results must be verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
•At least 5 years relevant experience as a refractory artisan in a smelter environment.
