Key Responsibilities

  • •Own durability, recoverability, performance of the Postgres/RDS fleet across all environments including replication, failover, backup/restore, and storage behavior under load.
  • •Make recovery provable through restore-tested coverage, timed failover drills, and measured RPO/RTO per tier with evidence.
  • •Own data lifecycle end to end: retention/cleanup policies, data-layer access control, encryption posture, and identifying where sensitive data lives.
  • •Hunt database engine-level performance pathologies such as lock contention, WAL throughput, replica lag, bloat, index hygiene, and write amplification.
  • •Build and extend database observability and AI-assisted operations tooling, including health-check skills and automated reviewer support for migration PRs.

Key Requirements

  • •5+ years running production PostgreSQL at meaningful scale (ideally on RDS or Aurora) with deep internals such as replication, WAL mechanics, MVCC, vacuum behavior, and query performance.
  • •Owned the full data lifecycle beyond query execution, including retention, backup/restore, access control, and security posture.
  • •Demonstrable disaster recovery experience including failovers designed, drills run, and concrete outcomes.
  • •Infrastructure fluency with infrastructure-as-code (Terraform or similar), scripting (Python, bash, SQL), Linux, and understanding cloud storage/IOPS behavior.
  • •SRE mindset: SLOs, blameless postmortems, and maintaining runbooks/decision records with clear writing.
