Job Summary

Perform power testing and energization (PTE) work for Protection and Control teams across high-voltage substations in Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. Execute electrical testing and commissioning to client, IEEE, NETA, NFPA, and NESC standards, including hands-on protective relay testing with Omicron and Doble relay test sets. Document field activities with digital tools, support project leadership, ensure safety and regulatory compliance, and mentor junior technicians.

Key Responsibilities

•Perform testing and commissioning tasks for Protection and Control systems on high-voltage substations.
•Conduct on-site protective relay testing using relay test sets such as Omicron CMC 256/356 and Doble F6150, including testing listed relay models and protective schemes.
•Document site activities using field forms, digital data tools, and mobile applications; maintain logs, photo documentation, and labels.
•Support project leadership (Project Lead or Field Supervisor), escalate complex technical problems or unexpected field conditions, and assist in monitoring subcontractor performance.
•Participate in daily safety briefings and ensure health and safety protocol compliance; review less experienced technicians’ work for quality and accuracy as needed.

Key Requirements

•High school diploma or equivalent.
•Minimum of 7 years of experience in the electrical testing industry, including substation protection and controls testing and medium/high-voltage equipment.
•Expertise with transmission, generation, and distribution relays and protective schemes (SEL, Basler, Beckwith, GE families).
•Proficiency with protective relay testing and calibration using Omicron CMC 256/356 and Doble F6150, including static and dynamic testing for microprocessor-based relays.
•Experience with electrical field testing standards and procedures (NETA, IEEE, NFPA) and ability to use technical software (e.g., ProTesT, Protection Suite, Omicron Test Universe, AcSELerator Quickset).
