Job Summary

Lead DuckDuckGo’s legal function as a senior advisor to the executive team and board, overseeing major regulatory, competition, and commercial matters. Manage and grow the legal team while owning high-impact, hands-on legal work. Partner with policy, Product, Engineering, and Security on EU/US regulatory issues (including privacy and emerging AI rules) and help drive privacy compliance and scalable legal operations as the company grows.

Key Responsibilities

•Serve as primary legal advisor to the CEO, executive team, and board on strategy, risk, regulatory developments, and sensitive legal matters.
•Provide legal counsel on EU and US regulatory matters, including DMA, DSA, EU AI Act, and US privacy legislation.
•Direct global privacy compliance to stay ahead of GDPR, US state privacy laws, and emerging data protection requirements.
•Lead company legal strategy and manage outside counsel in complex regulatory and competition proceedings.
•Manage and develop the legal team and evolve legal operations (intake workflows, outside counsel management, budget ownership, and playbooks).

Travel: Low travel

Key Requirements

•15+ years of legal experience, including 10+ years in-house at a consumer-facing technology company.
•7+ years in legal leadership roles, including 2+ years at comparable seniority (VP, Deputy General Counsel, etc.).
•JD and active bar membership in at least one US jurisdiction.
•Deep expertise in at least two legal domains: privacy/data protection, technology platform regulation, or antitrust/competition law.
•Track record advising executives on complex legal risk and managing significant litigation and regulatory proceedings.
