Job Summary

Lead electronics research projects within Dyson’s Electronic Systems Research team, mentoring engineers while exploring emerging power technologies. Key Responsibilities

•Lead an electronics research project while mentoring graduates and other engineers.
•Research emerging technologies using technical papers, patents, supplier engagement, and external collaborations.
•Design, simulate, build, and test demonstration rigs and prototype systems to assess feasibility.
•Develop power electronic systems (e.g., motor drives, battery management, power supplies, chargers, heater control) and optimize cost, size, efficiency, and performance.
•Create technical reports and present design concepts, test results, and recommendations to stakeholders; identify technical risks and mitigation strategies.

Key Requirements

•Degree in Electronic Engineering or a related discipline with relevant industry or research experience.
•Experience with at least one of: motor drives, inverters, SMPS, heater control, chargers, battery management systems, or power transfer.
•Good knowledge of power electronic devices (e.g., silicon IGBTs and MOSFETs) and wide bandgap technologies, including ability to interpret datasheets.
•Experience using SPICE-based simulation tools (e.g., Simetrix, LTspice) and correlating predicted behaviour with measured laboratory results.
•Schematic capture and PCB design experience using Altium Designer, Mentor Graphics, or other ECAD tools.
