Key Responsibilities

  • •Manage reception, registration, and traceability of incoming epidemiological and entomological samples, ensuring compliance with collection, preservation, packaging, and shipment standards and chain-of-custody procedures.
  • •Perform pre-analytical and analytical laboratory procedures, including preparation/processing of samples and operation, calibration, and basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
  • •Support molecular analysis workflows, including PCR assays used in onchocerciasis surveillance, and contribute to vector processing and identification (cytotaxonomy).
  • •Support quality assurance by maintaining laboratory records and log books, verifying quality controls, ensuring biosafety standards, and contributing to validation and reliability of results.
  • •Maintain laboratory inventories (reagents, consumables, equipment, sample repositories) and support routine operations such as equipment maintenance/calibration, cold chain monitoring, waste management, and preparation for audits.

Key Requirements

  • •Completion of secondary education, supplemented by training in molecular biology.
  • •10 years of experience in molecular testing using PCR with the pool screening method for blackflies.
  • •Sound technical knowledge of molecular biology lab procedures, including sample preparation, nucleic acid extraction, and PCR techniques for surveillance.
  • •Understanding of laboratory quality assurance systems, including internal quality control, validation procedures, and biosafety standards.
