Job Summary

Lead Smithfield’s Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) regulatory compliance and sustainability initiatives, driving 100% compliance with OSHA, EPA, and related federal/state requirements. Oversee the daily operations of water facilities across locations, develop SOPs and guidelines, and manage environmental permit documentation and applications. Direct EHS strategy, EMS program governance (audits, corrective actions), training documentation, and support regulatory reviews on capital and construction projects, while coaching a regulatory team.

Key Responsibilities

•Establish and maintain compliance with federal and state environmental, health and safety regulations, Smithfield Injury Prevention System (SIPS), PSM, ISO, EMS, and other corporate requirements.
•Lead correspondence with regulatory agencies (OSHA, EPA, Chemical Safety) and manage environmental permit compliance documentation and applications.
•Direct EHS team regulatory strategy, promoting best practices, evaluating risk to prevent injuries, and supporting innovation solutions for safe workplaces.
•Assist in writing, reviewing, and revising key plans and tracking documents (Risk Management plans, Emergency Response Plans, Environmental Permit compliance plans) and help train facility personnel.
•Provide operational oversight for water facilities, ensure operational controls meet requirements, represent on capital projects (anhydrous ammonia systems and waste facilities), and schedule regulatory reviews.

Travel: Extensive travel

Salary: USD 180,000 - 222,500 annually

Key Requirements

•Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering (or related field) and 12+ years’ relevant experience, or equivalent education and experience.
•5+ years of demonstrated experience managing and developing a team.
•Strong regulatory compliance knowledge and experience with federal and state environmental, health, and safety requirements.
•Experience leading/maintaining EHS systems and compliance documentation, including permits and tracking plans.
•Ability to travel to other locations about 50% of the time based on initiatives executed.
