Key Responsibilities

  • •Manage payment collection activity, resolving, disputing, or sending disputed items to Legal.
  • •Conduct collection activity on appealed claims by contacting government agencies and third-party payers by phone, email, or online.
  • •Provide ongoing collection activity on appeals and request additional information from patients and medical records as needed.
  • •Communicate with insurance plans and research health plan benefits and coverage types.
  • •Review contracts to identify billing/coding issues and request re-bills, secondary billing, or corrected bills as required.

Key Requirements

  • •Thorough understanding of the revenue cycle process, from patient access through Patient Financial Services billing and collections.
  • •Familiarity with Managed Care payers and terms such as MMC, HMO, PPO, IPA, and Capitation.
  • •Knowledge of Managed Care contract language and Federal and State requirements.
  • •Intermediate understanding of hospital billing form requirements (UB04 and HCFA 1500).
  • •Medical claims and/or hospital collections experience; minimum high school education or related training/experience.
