Key Responsibilities

  • •Own reliability, performance, and availability of all production databases (Aurora MySQL on AWS) across EHR, Data, and AI teams.
  • •Manage database alerting end to end by building and maintaining the observability pipeline feeding metrics and alerts into Datadog, and integrate after-hours alerts into DevOps on-call.
  • •Diagnose and optimize problematic queries by analyzing execution plans, driving re-indexing, and reducing latency and scaling pressure.
  • •Architect and right-size Aurora reader topology and read-routing strategy; manage replication health, backups, restore testing, failover, and disaster recovery.
  • •Author runbooks, implement safeguards for runaway/long-running queries, and establish safe schema-change and migration practices across teams while handling PHI responsibly in a HIPAA-compliant environment.

Key Requirements

  • •6+ years in database reliability engineering, database administration, or database engineering with ownership of production systems at scale.
  • •Deep MySQL expertise, including query optimization, execution-plan analysis, indexing strategy, and replication (Aurora MySQL preferred).
  • •Hands-on experience operating large, multi-reader Aurora/RDS clusters at terabyte scale, including read-routing and connection management.
  • •Strong database observability skills using tools such as Datadog, PMM, Performance Insights, and Prometheus/Grafana.
  • •Proficiency with scripting (Python/Bash or similar) and comfort with infrastructure-as-code using Terraform.
