Key Responsibilities

  • •Coordinate with regional and headquarters technical focal points under the guidance of the Head of the WHO country office.
  • •Provide expert technical guidance to national authorities across the WHO Health Emergencies (WHE) programme to enhance preparedness and response for outbreaks and health emergencies.
  • •Technically guide WHO’s approach to emergency risk management, country preparedness, International Health Regulations, risk and situation assessments, and infectious hazards management.
  • •Lead development/revision of national strategies and a national multi-hazard health emergency preparedness and response plan, including risk profiling and capacity/competency strengthening.
  • •Advocate for and mobilize resources and represent WHO in inter-agency meetings and external forums related to epidemics and emergency preparedness and response.

Key Requirements

  • •Advanced university degree (master’s level) in a relevant field such as medicine, epidemiology, or public health.
  • •Minimum 10 years of relevant work experience in public health, planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of epidemic and emergency preparedness and response activities.
  • •Experience strengthening country capacities and leading response to emergencies and disasters, including infectious disease outbreaks, natural disasters, or complex emergencies.
  • •Experience facilitating multi-sectoral partnerships for health policy and strategic and operational interventions in emergency preparedness, response, and recovery.
  • •Expert knowledge of English.
