Job Summary

Build and maintain Kong’s API management foundations, including proxying, load balancing, and database support. Design and implement new core features that extend Kong’s offerings, troubleshoot bugs, and optimize performance and low-level systems. Partner with the open source community and help bridge gaps between Kong and third-party deployment platforms. Work on distributed, highly scalable components while supporting AI/LLM-related capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

•Design, build, and maintain API management software and its underlying stack.
•Architect, design, and implement new core features such as proxying capabilities, load balancing, and database support.
•Troubleshoot bugs, perform performance tuning, and apply low-level optimizations while engaging with the open source community.
•Bridge gaps between Kong and third-party deployment platforms and tooling.
•Handle additional tasks required by the manager.

Key Requirements

•5+ years of programming in server-side applications and components.
•Experience designing, prototyping, building, and debugging highly scalable, distributed, reliable, and resilient applications.
•Solid low-level expertise in Linux systems troubleshooting and profiling.
•Experience with distributed systems and the Linux networking stack, including working with L7 and L4 transports and protocols.
•Comfort working with a remotely distributed team and strong written and verbal communication skills.
