Job Summary

Join the Lending Engineering team to build scalable financial systems and APIs for Cash App and Afterpay users. Work across credit risk, legal & compliance, and product management to ship hypothesis-driven features, maintain uptime and low latency, and contribute to a transparent IC/DRI model while shaping the future of lending in a distributed, remote-friendly environment.

Job Function: Software Engineering

Key Responsibilities

•Partner closely with credit risk, legal & compliance, product managers and other engineers to take the Lending capability to the next level.
•Lead or contribute to projects from hypothesis to production capability, ensuring ownership of the output quality.
•Build financial primitives by acting as an IC or lead on atomic, composable, API-level building blocks that serve the Block's intelligence layer.
•Take a developer-centric approach to designing and building clean APIs, optimizing strictly for uptime, latency, regulatory compliance, and cost-per-transaction.
•Operate and manage existing Cash services.

Pay and Benefits

Salary: USD 180,000 - 270,000 annually

•5+ years working on complex systems and delivering quality software.
•Experience with building APIs and working on distributed, scalable services using Java and Kotlin.
•Strong knowledge of AWS and modern backend tooling and architectures.

•Curiosity and resilience to navigate large-scale, interconnected systems and drive improvements.
