Key Responsibilities

  • •Own and evolve Interstate by defining guidelines, tokens, components, reusable patterns, and structural decisions that keep the system coherent as it scales.
  • •Set design direction for new, ambiguous features and connect the direction to product and customer value.
  • •Set the quality bar for design execution, accessibility, and usability that other teams inherit.
  • •Define governance for Interstate including contribution, versioning, and deprecation models to prevent fragmentation.
  • •Shape the design side of Interstate’s AI tooling by making it machine-readable and directing how agents compose UIs from components correctly.

Key Requirements

  • •Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and 6 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination (e.g., master’s + 4 years, PhD + 1 year, or 10 years).
  • •A systems thinker who understands token architecture, components/states, and contribution/governance models for design systems.
  • •Strong visual and interaction craft, with experience designing and testing for accessibility/assistive technologies (WCAG).
  • •High agency and influence as a senior design voice—driving direction upstream and shipping improvements without established solutions.
  • •Fluency with AI-assisted design/agent-based workflows, with a point of view on what design systems must provide for correct UI composition.
