Job Summary

Provide technical support to the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan to strengthen influenza and other high-threat pathogen preparedness. Work includes improving epidemiological and virological surveillance, supporting seasonal influenza vaccination and outbreak investigation training, updating pandemic influenza preparedness plans, and contributing to laboratory policy and quality initiatives under the Better Labs for Better Health initiative. Also develop advocacy input products and coordinate activities through the national laboratory coordination council.

Key Responsibilities

•Provide technical support to strengthen national systems to prevent and control influenza and other respiratory viruses, including seasonal, zoonotic and pandemic.
•Support improving epidemiological and virological surveillance systems and strengthen outbreak investigation and clinical management training.
•Update and test national influenza/respiratory pandemic preparedness plans and associated guidelines.
•Support implementation of laboratory policy, strategy, and action plans under the Better Labs for Better Health initiative, including coordination of laboratory working groups and trainings.
•Provide advocacy inputs related to the described duties and perform other required tasks.

Key Requirements

•First university degree in medicine, biological sciences or a related area.
•At least two years of relevant work experience in communicable diseases prevention and control, including surveillance and/or laboratory programmes/projects.
•Expert knowledge of English and Russian.
•Intermediate knowledge of Kyrgyz.
•Desirable: post graduate degree in public health, epidemiology or laboratory science, plus experience with WHO or other international organizations and laboratory quality management systems.
