Job Summary

Conduct architectural history work for heritage and cultural resources projects, supporting research, field documentation, and preparation of technical reports for federal, state, and commercial clients. Maintain quality control standards for accurate reporting and documentation, follow safety and site procedures, and apply NPS and Secretary of the Interior guidance to evaluate historic significance and project effects. Collaborate with the Heritage & Cultural Resources, Earth & Environment team across Washington, DC, Richmond, VA, and Baltimore, MD.

Key Responsibilities

•Maintain quality control standards for accurate reporting, evaluation, and documentation.
•Support cultural resource management by assisting with research, report writing, and documentation of historic above-ground resources.
•Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures during resource surveys.
•Use National Park Service (NPS) and Secretary of the Interior guidance to evaluate historic significance and determine effects of projects on historic resources.
•Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies; perform additional responsibilities as needed.

Key Requirements

•BA required with coursework in Historic Architecture, Historic Preservation, History, or a related field.
•3 to 5 years of relevant post-education experience as an historian, architectural historian, or similar role.
•Meet the Secretary of the Interior Standards (36 CFR 61) in Historic Preservation and/or History, with strong understanding of architectural resource significance recommendations and justifications.
•Strong organizational skills and familiarity with standard office computer applications.
•Ability to address project research questions by synthesizing field data, analyzing archival research, and incorporating published research; must possess a valid driver’s license and pass a background check.
