Key Responsibilities

  • •Conceive, assign, and edit sharply focused news, analyses, and enterprise that help CQ and Roll Call subscribers understand policy and political debates among the executive, legislative, and judicial branches.
  • •Coach, lead, manage, and partner with a team of political reporters to produce high-impact, enterprising stories.
  • •Develop and produce content for video, audio, and graphics, using multiple storytelling techniques across platforms.
  • •Analyze and incorporate data in journalism, particularly from proprietary databases in CQ and Factba.se, including primary editorial supervision of Factba.se and its newsletter.
  • •Edit stories across CQRC coverage areas as needed, support smooth workflow, and help amplify journalism through social media, events, and news media appearances.

Key Requirements

  • •5+ years of daily journalism experience with a strong track record of reporting, writing, and editing high-impact journalism.
  • •Excellent news judgment and copy editing skills, with a desire to produce nonpartisan, carefully reported work.
  • •Mastery of AP style and strong ability to edit enterprise and news stories for accuracy and clarity.
  • •Experience with campaign finance and financial disclosure requirements and filing deadlines (FEC, lobbying disclosure, etc.).
  • •Proficiency with WordPress; experience editing text for video and information graphics, plus familiarity with HTML and building web features.
