Key Responsibilities

  • •Serve as subject-matter expert for architecting and implementing Northern Trust’s global IP network, including applications and services running on top of it.
  • •Translate conceptual/logical network designs into physical designs that account for requirements, target environments, capacity, availability, performance, and non-functional needs.
  • •Provide technical design guidance and strategic leadership to engineering and application teams, and act as the ultimate escalation point for network issues.
  • •Proactively research and evaluate network tools, techniques, and technologies to increase performance and availability, lower total cost of ownership, and modernize network and service delivery.
  • •Deliver trouble resolution for escalated global network issues and support on-call/off-hours when needed; mentor team members in network design, support, and engineering.

Key Requirements

  • •Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or an equivalent technical four-year degree.
  • •15+ years of experience managing and designing solutions within an IP network (or 20+ years relevant experience) including DNS, time services, NAC, security, IPS, load balancing, and hosting/data center strategies.
  • •10+ years of experience with routing protocols including BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP, plus SD-WAN experience.
  • •10+ years of experience with Layer 2 protocols including vPC, data center zones, Spanning Tree, VRF, VTP, VLANs, and physical cabling.
  • •10+ years of working knowledge of security technologies including IPsec (IKEv1/IKEv2), Kerberos, SSH, RADIUS, TACACS+, AAA/PKI, and VPNs using IPsec.
