Job Summary

Advise Canva’s Product and Privacy team on legal issues spanning privacy, data protection, IP, marketing, online safety, AI regulation, platform, competition, and consumer laws. Partner with product, engineering, security, and privacy stakeholders to shape agentic and generative AI product development, go-to-market and partnership terms, and scalable legal review processes. Help operationalize company-wide AI policies and lead responses to privacy or data security incidents.

Key Responsibilities

•Identify and advise on legal issues across privacy, data protection, intellectual property, marketing, online safety, AI regulation, platform, competition, and consumer laws.
•Advise product development and go-to-market strategy, including partnership terms and consumer-facing terms, with risk mitigation for new AI tools and products.
•Contribute to the development and operationalization of company-wide AI policies, processes, and legal frameworks.
•Draft and maintain legal playbooks and internal guidance for AI tools and technologies.
•Participate in review and coordination of privacy or data security incidents, including investigations, notifications, and resolution efforts.

Key Requirements

•Legally qualified with an AUS/NZ, UK, EU, or US practising certificate.
•10+ years practising law, with some in-house experience, preferably in a technology company.
•Familiarity with key global digital, AI, privacy, consumer, and online safety laws and regulations (e.g., EU AI Act, GDPR, Digital Services Act, Online Safety Act(s)).
•Deep understanding of modern AI technology and products, including generative and agentic AI and their privacy, IP, safety, and regulatory considerations.
•Comfort collaborating with team members across other time zones.
