Job Summary

Serve as an on-call, part-time Field Archaeologist supporting WSP’s Heritage and Cultural Resources team across Phase I and II archaeological testing. Conduct pedestrian reconnaissance, shovel tests, and supervised test unit excavation, then document findings with detailed notes (including Munsell soil descriptions) and field forms. Identify prehistoric and historic artifacts, collaborate with the field team, and follow safety, ethics, and company policies while traveling 100%.

Key Responsibilities

•Assist with field projects during archaeological testing phases (primarily Phase I and II) including pedestrian reconnaissance, shovel tests, and supervised test unit excavation.
•Document findings using detailed note taking, including Munsell soil descriptions, and complete field forms.
•Assist with identification of prehistoric and historic artifacts and document archaeological deposits.
•Work as part of a team.
•Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP’s code of conduct and related policies and procedures.

Key Requirements

•Undergraduate degree in anthropology, archaeology, historic preservation, or a related field.
•Archaeological field school.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
•Physically able to conduct fieldwork in all weather conditions and follow instructions.
•Proven track record upholding workplace safety and compliance with health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
