Key Responsibilities

  • •Partner with the Director to develop and implement the Laboratory’s strategic plan, translating objectives into measurable operational programmes.
  • •Provide overall leadership of professional services and operational functions, including policies, governance frameworks, and delivery of laboratory services and technical support.
  • •Oversee research operations, including research administration and project management across the Laboratory’s portfolio, ensuring compliance and successful delivery of major programmes.
  • •Lead people across professional services, technical, and operational staff—supporting workforce planning, recruitment, development, and inclusive culture.
  • •Manage financial planning and performance reporting, and drive partnerships and external engagement while leading governance, risk, health and safety, and business continuity.

Key Requirements

  • •Postgraduate qualification in management, engineering, science, business, or a related discipline.
  • •Significant senior leadership experience within a university, research institute, innovation organisation, or a comparable complex environment.
  • •Experience leading multidisciplinary operational teams and delivering strategic planning and organisational development.
  • •Research administration and grant management experience, including compliance with funding agency requirements and university policies.
  • •Track record of building partnerships across academia, industry, and government, with governance frameworks, risk/regulatory compliance, and strong programme and financial management.
