Key Responsibilities

  • •Perform testing and commissioning tasks for Protection and Control systems on high-voltage substations.
  • •Conduct hands-on protective relay testing using relay test sets such as Omicron and Doble; test protective relays and sensing CT/PT circuits.
  • •Use field forms, digital data tools, and mobile applications to document site activities with logs, photos, and labels.
  • •Support project leadership by escalating complex technical issues/unexpected conditions and communicating progress, observations, and delays.
  • •Mentor less experienced technicians and help ensure safety briefings and compliance with health and safety protocols; assist with clerical field reporting (timecards, expenses, reports).

Key Requirements

  • •High school diploma or equivalent.
  • •Minimum of 7 years of electrical testing experience, including substation protection and controls testing (medium/high voltage).
  • •Demonstrable expertise with transmission, generation, and distribution relays and protective schemes (e.g., SEL, Basler, Beckwith, GE families).
  • •Experience with protective relay calibration and testing using relay test sets/measuring devices such as Omicron CMC 256/356 and Doble F6150, including static and dynamic testing of microprocessor-based relays.
  • •Experience with electrical field testing standards, practices, and procedures (e.g., NETA, IEEE, NFPA) and the ability to read electrical drawings.
