Key Responsibilities

  • •Receive, evaluate, and underwrite complex life insurance applications up to approved handling limits while maintaining confidentiality.
  • •Maintain in-depth knowledge of underwriting manuals, rules, regulations, procedures, and administrative systems to serve internal/external customers.
  • •Determine additional evidence of insurability, authorize ordering of requirements (e.g., exams, blood profiles, attending physician reports), and apply accelerated underwriting risk-based decisions.
  • •Evaluate complex financial underwriting applications, establish insurable interest, and provide referrals/training support to less experienced underwriters.
  • •Negotiate and coordinate automatic and facultative reinsurance within contractual treaty terms; consult with underwriting and medical leaders as needed.

Key Requirements

  • •Ten years of life underwriting experience.
  • •Undergraduate studies in a medical-related discipline, marketing, insurance, risk management, economics, finance, or business management.
  • •Obtainment of the AALU designation; participation in or attainment of CLU and FLMI.
  • •EKG certification preferred.
  • •Demonstrated ability to assess mortality/morbidity risk and apply risk-based decision-making to complex life and financial underwriting cases.
