Key Responsibilities

  • •Undertake electrical, high-voltage, medium-voltage, protection and coordination, compliance, and occasionally instrumentation and controls engineering for the generating fleet.
  • •Supervise and perform engineering and project management work as requested across the business.
  • •Provide technical leadership for engineering activities, including investigation and troubleshooting of electrical equipment issues and delivering recommendations.
  • •Interpret and apply industry standards and TransAlta best practices to ensure code compliance while balancing cost, quality, and reliability.
  • •Lead project development and support maintenance activities (turnarounds and unplanned outages), including work scopes, inspection plans, bid evaluation, and contract reviews.

Key Requirements

  • •Electrical Engineering degree and registration or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) or another provincial association with inter-provincial mobility.
  • •4–6 years of relevant experience in thermal/gas-fired power generation or a comparable industry.
  • •Hands-on experience with switchgear/MCCs, motors, generators, transformers, power system analysis, protection and coordination; turbine control systems, DCS, PLCs, fire alarm systems, and SCADA are a plus.
  • •Familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code and strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and cloud-based software.
  • •Ability to work independently and as part of a team with strong written and verbal communication skills, plus comfort with field work and extended outage durations.
