Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

  • •Support Member States in developing and implementing evidence-informed policies, legislation, strategies and action plans, including surveillance and monitoring for mental health and substance use disorders.
  • •Provide technical support and advice to civil society organizations and other entities on public health issues related to mental health and substance use disorders, including suicide prevention.
  • •Support coordination, international collaboration, implementation mechanisms and communication for the EMRO substance use flagship initiative.
  • •Support implementation of the regional action plan on mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) in emergencies 2024–2030.
  • •Draft and assist with preparation of project proposals for regional/national and global donors, and prepare/revise technical documents and information products.

Key Requirements

  • •Master's degree in psychiatry or Clinical Psychology from a recognized institution.
  • •At least 7 years of relevant experience with international exposure developing and implementing policies, strategies and action plans for prevention and treatment of mental health conditions and substance abuse.
  • •Expert knowledge of international policy frameworks for reducing public health problems related to mental health and substance use disorders.
  • •Demonstrated ability to provide expert advice and technical assistance to countries on development and implementation of policies and programmes.
  • •Expert knowledge of English; desirable: intermediate knowledge of Arabic or French.
