Job Summary

Operate a paving screed or roller and other heavy equipment to pave asphalt for projects across the region. Work outdoors with a crew to meet daily schedules and quality specifications by applying asphalt correctly, controlling depth/grade, and maintaining proper compaction and smoothness. Guide dump trucks while backing up to the hopper, perform minor maintenance, keep machines clean, communicate issues, and follow all safety rules.

Key Responsibilities

•Operate equipment safely and efficiently within designed parameters.
•Operate asphalt paver and/or screed to apply asphalt per plan and quality specifications to meet daily schedules/estimates.
•Maintain proper compaction and smoothing of asphalt, including normal adjustments for depth, grade, and finished cross section.
•Guide and direct dump trucks while backing up to the machine hopper when operating the paver.
•Assist labor crew with shoveling, raking, and compacting; communicate material flaws; take action to avoid hazards; perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major issues.

Key Requirements

•3-6 years of heavy civil construction experience, specifically asphalt paving.
•Current and valid driver’s license.
•Ability to read and comprehend blueprints and site specifications (including simple instructions, memos, and correspondence).
•Safety-minded with the ability to conform to and maintain OSHA, MSHA, DOT, and other company/state rules and regulations.
•Must pass a pre-employment physical exam and controlled substance testing; must have current authorization to work in the United States.
