Job Summary

Build Adyen’s internal Database-as-a-Service (DBaaS) platform for PostgreSQL, powering provisioning, scaling, and operations for product teams. Develop abstraction layers, automation, and tooling to enable regional high availability, automated failover, connection pooling, and seamless query routing. Design reliable systems across networking, compute, and storage, debug performance bottlenecks in distributed environments, and participate in on-call to reduce operational toil.

Key Responsibilities

•Design and develop Adyen’s internal DBaaS offering, automating the database lifecycle from provisioning and connection pooling to failover and upgrades.
•Bake reliability into the platform, implementing high availability and disaster recovery across regional HA, query routing, and storage replication on Bare Metal and OpenStack.
•Investigate and debug complex performance bottlenecks across kernel, network, or database layers using system metrics, traces, and logs.
•Build developer-experience tooling that abstracts large-scale stateful infrastructure so product engineers can focus on business logic.
•Participate in the on-call rotation to learn from incidents and reduce operational toil.

Key Requirements

•Deep understanding of Linux (networking, file systems, kernel tuning) and distributed systems principles, including how stateful services fail in distributed environments.
•Proficiency in Go or Python, building clean, testable, maintainable code for infrastructure automation and internal tools.
•Operational knowledge of running databases (PostgreSQL or similar) at scale.
•Proactive problem-solving with a focus on root-cause analysis and permanent fixes.
•Ability to communicate complex infrastructure concepts and collaborate closely with Compute, Networking, and Storage teams.
