Location: San Jose
Workplace: Hybrid
Employment Type: Full time
Job Function: Software Engineering
Seniority: Director level

Key Responsibilities

  • •Own developer productivity horizontally across ROCm by building a continuous, empirical view of where developers lose time using interviews, instrumentation, friction logging, and build/CI analysis.
  • •Identify and eliminate the highest-leverage friction points across infrastructure, workflow redesign, and direct development stack improvements to measurably increase engineering velocity.
  • •Build shared tooling to replace fragmentation by surfacing team workarounds, driving consolidation into canonical maintained solutions, and reducing incentives to rebuild locally.
  • •Define and instrument productivity metrics (e.g., build time, incremental compile time, time-to-first-green, environment setup time, onboarding completion) and use them to demonstrate impact.
  • •Drive infrastructure changes that improve build and CI acceleration, developer environment standardization, and first-class CI failure reproduction; eventually structure and lead a supporting team as the function scales.

Key Requirements

  • •Senior individual contributor with deep experience in developer tooling, platform engineering, build systems, or DevOps.
  • •Strong hands-on coding ability to work directly in the codebase (not only process).
  • •Track record of improving developer experience at scale across organizations of 100+ engineers with measurable outcomes.
  • •Demonstrated ability to operate horizontally across autonomous teams, building alignment and driving adoption without organizational authority.
  • •Deep technical understanding of CI/CD systems, build infrastructure, and developer workflow tooling.
